a solo show by durmerrick

Always Never Dead is Durmerrick’s debut solo show tracing his path from child preacher to poet, actor to activist, silence to voice. In one act, he blends sermon, poetry, song, and protest into a bold personal narrative of survival and becoming.

About Durmerrick

Durmerrick is a nationally recognized, award-winning performance artist who uses the voice, body, and word to create conceptual and theatrical experiences through poetry and creative writing. Drawing on his background as a former preacher and actor, Durmerrick’s genre-blending work moves between stage, sermon, and storytelling, and confronts the intersections of Blackness, queerness, faith, mental health, and structural injustice.

In 2023, he reached a landmark mental health settlement with Howard University without an attorney—an act that helped spark a U.S. Department of Justice investigation. He most recently worked at United Talent Agency in LA, where he was promoted to a Junior Agent role and supported leading talent whose work shapes entertainment and culture.

Durmerrick is a proud graduate of Texas Southern University where he earned 4 international championships in speech & debate—the most in the team’s 70-year history. His performances have been featured by the NAACP, the National Holocaust, LA County Museum of Art, Coca-Cola, All Def, and the Pan African Film Festival. Guided by Tupac Shakur’s conviction that “I may not change the world, but I’ll inspire the mind that does,” Durmerrick’s work embodies the belief that storytelling can be both art and a tool for liberation.
